It's been awhile...Brody's back!

Hey, folks.  So it's been some time since I've posted an update here.  For those of you who follow me on social media, you know I've still been taking a few photos here and there.  Although, starting my new job caused me to slow down.  Way down.  I wanted to make sure I could handle that load plus this pastime.  What I've learned from this small hiatus is that I really do love taking photos.  More than taking photos, I love the final product and the reactions that it receives from the subjects, my friends, or even complete strangers.  Now, I'm back at it and working on expanding just a little.  More on that later...

For now, I got to hang out with a complete and total ham:  Brody Bear!  This little guy is celebrating, of course, Christmas, but also his second birthday, which is just around the corner.  I just can't believe it's been almost two years since I first photographed this kid, my very first newborn session.  He was so tiny and fragile.  I was scared to death to even move him!  His momma and daddy reassured me then, as they still do now.

At one point during our latest session, Lauren was changing Brody's clothes and putting his shoes back on.  I caught myself watching her, admiring her patience and calmness.  This mom and dad show me every single time just how awesome they are as parents.  It's a blessing to watch this family; as a bystander, I can feel the love they have for each other. And Brody absolutely adores his parents.  It's so cute!

Brody was his usual self during this session - stoic until I put the camera down.  I find myself missing the big smiles when I try to make him smile more.  Nevertheless, he finds his mom and dad pretty funny, thankfully.  I do love his little face, smile or no smile.

Special thanks to Ms. Sherry of Roan Valley Tree Farm for letting us set up today.  They were busy, but they still have a ton of beautiful Christmas trees available.  Go visit!  And thanks to those super nice, complete strangers at the farm who let us borrow their chainsaw as a photo prop.  That prop alone got us the best face of the day!  Another thanks to my good friend Michelle Elliot of Burlap + Lace for the super cute burlap banners.  I didn't get to use them as much as I wanted because it started to rain on me throughout the day. I'll get them out later this week and next weekend for other sessions.  Check out Burlap + Lace's Facebook page to find out where Michelle will be next.  Her door hangers are super cute!  Finally, thanks to Lauren and Daniel for letting me work with them yet again.  A photo session with Brody is the best kind of session.  :)

Merry Christmas, Brody Bear, and Happy 2nd Birthday!  You are a blessing to all who meet you!

Ice Pops, Splash Pads, and Creeks

I've not posted in a few days, but that doesn't mean I haven't been shooting.  I'm trying to make a habit of photographing some moment every day, no matter how seemingly insignificant.  Sometimes I don't get much, but sometimes I do.   Izzy has a neighbor friend that she plays with often, and it seems like every time they play, they eat.  This particular day brought them ice pops and confetti cake.  These two love to play together and the boy has never met a stranger.  He cracks me up with his "Hey!" whenever we see him.  He makes himself at home well, too.  Such a fun kid.   Next, we had another play date with Lexie!  At another splash pad!  We have a few more to visit before we can say we've conquered them all in our area.  This one was at Steele Creek Park in Bristol.  While I like Bristol, and I like Steele Creek Park, I prefer Rotary Park in Johnson City.  Plus, there is a drainage problem here, so o

Splash Pad!

Play date number 2 is in the books!  Two play dates within one week!  Ashley, we're killing it!  :)   We met up at Rotary Park in Johnson City to have fun at the new splash pad.  When we drove up, I was a little worried about the crowd because the parking lot was -FULL- but it wasn't that bad.  We just plopped our bags and towels down in the pretty astroturf and got to playing.  It was a beautiful, hot day, so the water was a great idea.  Except I had to remind myself that I had a camera in my hands!  I found myself fascinated with the motion of the water, so I tried to get in as close as I could to capture the movement.  I was also happy to see how blissfully happy the girls were while playing.  Izzy completely let loose as soon as we arrived.  I love that this girl can have so much fun no matter what we do.  Cousin Hazen joined us, but I don't know that she had as much fun as Izzy and Lexie.  She did, however, introduce the girls to different types of fidget spinners

Muddy Puddles

Izzy loves Peppa Pig, and if you've seen the show, you know about muddy puddles.  Today was our day to play like Peppa, George, and all her friends.  Thanks to my good friend Jessie, I had a little nudge of inspiration with a pin from Pinterest, and I figured we might as well have a little fun in the rain today instead of staying cooped up inside.  I was going to hold off on posting these, but I just can't wait.    I love my girl, her smile, her personality, her fearlessness, her strong will, and her playfulness.  I hope she always stays the same!
