Black & White or Color?

With some images, determining whether to use black and white or color can be pretty tricky.  Ideally, when high contrast is present in the image, black and white is usually a good choice, especially when you want to highlight a specific part of the image (i.e. smiles).  Sometimes, however, I have a hard time choosing which I like best.  I typically choose color for whatever reason.  This image is proving difficult for me, though.  I can't decide on my own because both speak to me.  What do you think?

More from Spring Break

While on vacation, I haven't had my camera out as much as I should have, I suppose.  Today, I changed that.  I took over 300 images!  We visited a small beach on the side of the road and had a great day.  I decided, while Izzy was playing in the sand, that I should capture those images of her doing what she loved to do.  So all of the following showcase her favorite pastime while hanging out on the beach!  Enjoy!                This last image is my latest attempt at freelensing.  I think this one turned out better than the last image of the seaweed (see previous post), so maybe I did this technique better this time.  Don't ask me what I did differently, though!  I call this one "Bucket O' Fun".

Under the Bridge

One more for today… I love this one.  That is all.

Spring Break

I realize some people back home are experiencing the unpredictable spring weather and SNOW!  Fortunately for my little family, we are living it up on a beach!  So, for all of you stuck in the snow, here is a peaceful photo I took today… This photo is the result of experimenting with freelensing.  This was my first attempt, and I'm sure this isn't what a finished product should look like, but I thought the photo turned out pretty cool looking.  This is "Seaweed on the Shoreline".  Enjoy!

Ring Around the Roses...

What do you get when you play Ring Around the Roses while trying to snap photos at the same time? While we were out and about this evening, Izzy and I just happened to be close to the VA right at sunset, so I decided to have a little photo session and try out my new lens.  I'm not 100% happy with the results, but I'll keep playing with the lens.  Nevertheless, I'm pretty happy with this sweet face!

The Journey...

As I was looking through some files tonight, I found this gem.  I took this photo last summer for Micah's senior portraits.  While Micah only has a few short weeks left of high school and her journey will be starting a new direction, my journey could possibly be taking the same type of course.  I'm almost finished with my Master's degree in Library Media, and I've been considering taking up more photography sessions.  Coincidentally, I feel as though my journey, the journey of the past 7+ years, might be taking a new direction.   Here's to all of those ready to make a change, whatever that change may be.  May we all have a little faith, trust, and pixie dust to help us along our way!

Snowy Day

After the biggest snowfall came down Wednesday night, we had to get Izzy outside the next morning.  She didn't like it too much, but we managed to make one good snow angel.  Today, we spent the afternoon sledding at my Dad's house.  This was Izzy's first trip down a hill, and she handled it pretty well.  Ultimately, she figured out she would rather eat the snow instead of play in it!   While the snow can be fun, especially for kids, I'm hoping we don't see anymore of the stuff!  I did get a few good shots, though!
